Simple Mornings
06:54
|
|||
dear Andrea:
you’re still asleep
and don’t let me wake you from your sleep
i just wanted to write a few words
for whatever they may be worth
right now i’m lying right next to you
and the morning is just now coming through
today i woke up in your arms and found
something i needed to have found
they say a year ain’t that long
but you know what kind of year it’s been
when i look back i can barely place
just who i was before i went away
so dear Andrea when you awake
i’ll just have a few words to say
cause today i woke up next to you
and for the first time in a long time it was like everything was new
and you know I needed to know that again
you know i love…
you know I love to spend these…
simple mornings after rain
just lying next to you
simple mornings after rain
just lying next to you
simple mornings after rain...
(just lying next to you)
simple mornings after rain...
(just lying next to you)
oh the simple light...
oh the simple light...

Our Forever Is Now
04:14
|
|||
just look at all that starlight
just look at all those points of light
yeah and some of them are satellites
from up there our world is a blue light
i know down here there’s a darkness
yeah you know that kind of darkness
and sometimes it feels like
it never lifts, like it never quits
but just look at all that starlight
just look at all those points of light
yeah i promise you that all this
this is all yours, yours is all this
our forever is now
stand anywhere and look out
our forever is now
this is our time
our forever is now
so what if all this was changing
the mountains and the oceans?
but what if all this changing
was all just an old wind?
and what if that old wind
made everything unbroken
and made everything golden
made everything whole again?
our forever is now
stand anywhere and just look out
our forever is now
this is our time
our forever is now

i’m looking at your photograph in my armchair
looking in your paper eyes wishing i was back there
i’ll board a plane yeah i’ll come flying back
if i come flying down your street will you hold your arms out to catch?
girl you make it look easy
doing nothing just standing on the balcony holding the universe together
and how right the light, how simple the morning air
how when morning comes and you’re lying there
i’ll board a star yeah i’ll come burning back
if i come in such a flash will you hold your arms out to catch?
honey you make it look easy
doing nothing just standing on the balcony holding the universe together

The Changes
03:31
|
|||
you grabbed your book, you grabbed your bag
and went to say your goodbye
you heard your own steps on the wooden floor
and it brought you a little back in time
the changes...
you try and save what you can save
the changes...
you try and make what you can make
the changes...
you take the things you need to take
you were young and you would always be alive
every walk home there was a new rock to find
but you can never really ever know
how much you you’re gonna leave behind
the changes...
you save the things you need to save
the changes...
you save a little of love: a little of pain
the changes...
you hold the things that you can hold
change is...
you keep the parts they keep you whole
change is...
you save a little to remember by
change is...
you keep a box of letters and time

Lightning:Thunder
03:40
|
|||
there’s a highway
there’s a straight line
i could go forever
just break for new life
it’s overcast
it’s midnight
and this feels like a dividing line
is that lightning or is it thunder
or just a likening to the sound of the rain?
cause if it’s lightning i gotta wonder
if i should lie in shelter or go out anyway
there’s a freeway
there’s a bus fare
i could go forever
straight outta here
but maybe it’s long past
long drives
maybe it’s long past choosing sides
is this lightning or is it thunder
or just a likening to the sound of the rain?
cause if it’s lightning i gotta wonder
if i should lie in shelter or go out anyway
is it over?
cause i got a feeling like i could stand here forever and lose you anyway
is that lightning or is it thunder
or just a likening to the sound of the rain?
cause if it’s lightning i gotta wonder
if i should lie in shelter or go out anyway

Returning
05:13
|
|||
it’s sundown
on that long unending field
the edges burned out
the horizons dark filled
yeah and then the night stretches open like...
just like a book i wish i could write
i reach up and out to fold the corner down
yeah to mark the page, yeah to mark this ground
i am in a room with no doors
yeah i am stretched upon the night with no shores
i am rising; i am falling
i am returning
when I come back
my first thought will be of you
i’ll wanna show you that
i’ll wanna show you that all things are new
i’ll wanna fold it up, i’ll wanna take it down
i’ll wanna find its name, i’ll wanna make the sound
i’ll wanna reach up and out to mark the page
so when i hold it out you’ll know the way
but now i am in a room with no doors
and the night is stretched out over me like a sea with no shores
i am rising; i am falling
i am returning

i started out younger
yeah just dreaming of
in all my hunger
yeah just dreaming of love
but i saw it shifting
and how it can break a family up
what it does when it's missing
so yeah i gave it up
i said: i will never let love
break me like that
so i went missing
yeah i went away
and i wouldn’t listen
when the moon brushed love my way
and now i’m standing here
thirty years like yesterday
thinking about you
and the way you make me wanna change
if I should love you
would I just break in half?
but yeah, I’m gonna love you anyway...
i don’t wanna build it
if it’s just gonna break
and i don’t wanna hurt you
but i don’t wanna feel afraid
i wanna hold it up
or bury it deep inside
i wanna keep it safe
from the world outside
i wanna know that
it will be alright
last night i left
your house at 2 AM
you said: don’t go
i said: no really, it’s better if I’m leaving
and as i was driving
i said: is this really how it goes?
am I really gonna turn and run?
i said: no, no, no and drove back to your home
i knocked
and you smiled and said: hey
yeah, i’m gonna love you anyway...
