For Emily 05:32
What’s that one word? What’s that one verse? Or is it a song I heard Maybe like crimson and clover Now I’m gonna reach out And I want you to reach out I’m gonna call out And I want you to call out Ah, now I know what I’m thinking of It’s that one word we never said it’s ____ That morning star Always catches me off guard And it hits me just how far you are Sweet Emily I never meant to miss you as much as I do I pull up to the gate I take the lock away I push open the gate And drive down the driveway As the skies dark I think of you As the skies dark I think of you As the skies clear I think of you As the skies clear I think of you As the skies blue I think of you As the skies blue I think of you That morning star Always catches me off guard And it hits me just how far you are Sweet Emily I never meant to miss you as much as I do You know what word I’m thinking of It’s that one we never said it’s ____

It’s cold at the window The rain falls upon the soil I’ll be the one Lord I’ll be the one Just draw the evening down Let it burn like scented oil I’ll be the one Lord I’ll be the one There’s a passage in the heart That knows no sorrow There’s a passage in the heart That knows no hollow I’ll be the one I’ll be the one I’ll be the one to keep you warm like the burning sun I’ll be the one I’ll be the one You can hold on to I breathe in the light from your eyes Just to hold you inside me It’s as if I’ve been chosen Lord I’ve been chosen There’s a passage in the heart That knows just to follow There’s a passage in the heart That knows no tomorrows There’s a passage in the heart That knows no winter And when I’m with her Lord when I’m with her

I let you slip down through my skin You ran through my blood like dawn runs through the wind I marked your words your rhythm of speech I lived by this pattern and moved by the beat I kept your secrets you gave them only to me Though after a while it seemed they were all I could keep I still have you here Yeah, I got away, but I never got clear Your heart had on it my fingerprints I held on to it until it could hold itself again When your voice gave out you wrote it down I held the pages in my ribs and carried them around Even now though it’s been so long I keep your shadow written book of psalms I still have you here Yeah, I got away, but I never got clear I carried your name across desert plains Over mountains and back again I’m sitting here now it’s way past midnight After a year away and out of sight I kept you close you gave yourself to me Though after a while it seemed that was too much to keep I still have you here Yeah, I got away, but I never got clear

there’s a light in the alley from the late night restaurant there’s road off winding That takes you anywhere you want there’s an all night diner where i go sometimes to watch the cars on the street through the old crooked blinds there’s a waitress there who serves me black tea with a smile she calls me sweetheart and honey and lets me stay there awhile the cooks in the kitchen put on the country radio they play lefty and tammy and the old opry show when i walk back out i’m headed for the park i put my hands in my pockets and watch the moon in the dark it’s back to work on monday but for now i’m free i let bus pass me by and walk awhile down the street the city lights are burning it’s like an old photograph yeah i know i never i left here but i feel like i’m coming back there’s my old house on harmon we’d sit out on the roof listen to the interstate and wait for the stars to come through and now the soft church lights fall down on the scene i remember when i was younger how much i use to dream i turn back down the drag on that old familiar road i use to work at this building and after work we’d all go to spider house or somewhere with some music or a book we all had stories back then we had our versus and our hooks when i walk back out i take the way through the park i kick the leaves as i’m walking and watch the moon in the dark it’s back to work on monday but for now i’m free i let the bus pass me by and walk awhile down the street the city lights are burning it’s like an old photograph yeah i know i never i left here but i feel like i’m coming back

let’s start together let’s start forever no death could ever take this life from you your hot iron heartbeat those cold iron bed sheets your pocket knife grief they don’t know you like I do your skull sharp memory that falling star scene your tear and lost dream they were never meant for you and those casket wind chimes that matchlight moonshine those fog and fear eyes they’re too much a part of you hey and I know how much it hurts trust me, I do yeah I know how much it hurts cause it hurts me too so you’ve been changing and I’ve been changing so we’ve been changing well let’s start something new if we just start walking then we’ll start running then we’ll start flying right up into the blue and raise our hands up and raise our hearts up and raise our heads up and sing something new it goes: let’s start together let’s start forever no death could ever take the life from you
