lyrics

i’ve been standing here long enough to know the sound a door makes when it closes
i’ve been watching time for years enough to know that it can kill the prettiest of roses
you better damn sure believe that when it comes down to it i aint living for a prize
when you take a shot take it from the heart and always look it straight in the eyes

it’s time to throw down the raises
though i’ll admit these years have made me tired
but the last thing i wanna do right now is lay down
no it’s time to walk in the fire

i go to work come home put on a record and just think about it all
i take a walk outside cause i get too closed up living in these walls
yeah i know it’s a song sung before but this time i’m gonna let it all go
you can have my books, my bed i’m going to live out on the road

it’s time to throw down the raises
though i’ll admit these years have made me tired
but the last thing i wanna do right now is lay down
no it’s time to walk in the fire

i may not be a young man but being young don’t mean much to me anymore
you either hear the flood or you don’t but either way you’re gonna end up at the shore
i’ve spent a thousand days never really knowing how much each one of borrowed
but i’ll tell you now when i go i’m leaving without any more false tomorrows

it’s time to throw down the raises
though i’ll admit these years have made me tired
but the last thing i wanna do right now is lay down
no it’s time to walk in the fire
